Place graphics and arrange layout objects

Fit images to frames, style objects and keep complex pages organized.

Applies to Design 0.8.0 on doc.et.

Separate the frame from its content#

Place imports a graphic into the layout. A graphic frame defines the visible region; the content has its own fitting and position. Use fitting controls to decide whether the image fills the frame, fits inside it or keeps another placement. Cropping is a layout decision, so check that the important part of the picture remains visible after resizing.

Supported placed graphics include common raster images, SVG, PDF and AI inputs. Format support does not mean that every embedded feature is editable. A placed PDF is not promised as an editable collection of vector objects. Keep the original asset when preparing a publication that may need later changes.

  1. Use Place to choose a graphic from your device.
  2. Adjust the frame and apply an appropriate fitting option.
  3. Review cropping and resolution before exporting the page.

Organize and style objects#

The object tools support geometry, transformation, grouping and stacking. Layers help separate related page elements and control visibility or locking. Fill, stroke, transparency and effects set an object’s appearance. The Links panel reports placed-content relationships, but desktop filesystem relinking is not the same as choosing a file through the browser. Use the current document’s embedded content and inspect any reported missing assets before sharing.
