Check color, graphics and overset before export

Use preflight and output previews to catch publication problems.

Applies to Design 0.8.0 on doc.et.

Preflight the actual document#

Preflight checks the layout for issues such as overset text, missing fonts or glyphs, missing or low-resolution graphics, RGB content in a print document and empty text frames. The results identify problems for review; an apparently clean page can still contain text that does not fit, so inspect the report before handing off the PDF.

Fix the problem in the document and run the check again. A missing font may need substitution, while overset text may need more room or a new frame in its thread. An image warning calls for checking the source resolution and its final placed size. Preflight is useful evidence, but it does not certify every printer’s requirements or every export standard.

  1. Run Preflight Document and inspect each reported issue.
  2. Correct text overflow, missing characters or problematic placed content.
  3. Run the check again, then inspect the exported file.

Preview production decisions#

Swatches, stroke controls and color settings help keep colors consistent. Proof Colors, Overprint Preview and Separations Preview support inspection of output-related behavior. Bleed and marks belong to the export setup as well as document geometry. Confirm a printer’s requested settings separately; the presence of a PDF preset or color preview is not a guarantee that a particular print workflow has been validated.
