Page layout, headers and sections
Set up pages for reports, letters and longer documents.
Applies to Word 0.7.0 on doc.et.
What you can do#
Layout includes paper size, margins, orientation, columns and breaks. Choose these settings before polishing a document because changes to page width can move text and tables. A page break starts content on another page; section breaks allow different parts of a document to use different page settings.
Headers and footers hold recurring material such as a document title or page numbering. The page controls include different first-page and odd/even-page arrangements. Fields provide page numbers and dates that belong to the document structure rather than text you must maintain on every page.
Try it#
Check the first page of each section and the final page after a layout change. Fonts and layout rules can produce different pagination from other word processors. For documents whose page numbers are important, verify the exported PDF instead of assuming another application will paginate identically.
- Choose the paper size, margins and orientation in Layout.
- Insert a page or section break where the structure requires it.
- Insert a header or footer and add page numbering.
- Review the document in Print Layout before exporting.
