Find, navigate and adjust your workspace

Move around large documents and choose a useful editing view.

Applies to Word 0.7.0 on doc.et.

What you can do#

Find and Replace help locate repeated text and make controlled edits. Use the available search options to narrow a search, then inspect matches before replacing many occurrences. The navigation pane and outline view are helpful when the document uses meaningful headings.

View offers Print Layout, Web Layout, Draft, Outline and Read Mode. These views change how you work with the document; they are not separate output formats. Rulers, formatting marks, table gridlines and zoom reveal different aspects of the layout. Focus and reading options reduce distractions when reviewing text.

Try it#

Return to Print Layout for the final page review. A comfortable drafting view does not establish how the printed pages will break. Keep browser zoom and document zoom in mind when working on a small screen, and save before making broad replacement operations.

  1. Open Find and search for a distinctive phrase.
  2. Review the matches before using Replace or Replace All.
  3. Use the navigation pane to move among headings.
  4. Choose an editing view and adjust zoom for the task.
