Tables, sorting and data cleanup

Turn a raw list into a structured, searchable worksheet.

Applies to Grid 0.7.0 on doc.et.

What you can do#

Sort and filter controls help inspect a table without manually moving individual cells. Sort the complete data region so a record stays together. Multi-key sorting is useful when a primary group, such as a department, also needs an order within that group.

Remove Duplicates, Text to Columns and Flash Fill support common cleanup tasks. Validation rules restrict or guide input using lists, numeric limits, dates, text length or formulas. Input messages and error messages explain what belongs in the cells. Grouping and subtotals help organise longer lists into collapsible summaries.

Try it#

Save a copy before removing duplicates or splitting text into adjacent columns. Filtering hides records rather than deleting them, so clear filters before concluding that a row is missing. Validation helps catch mistakes but does not prove that existing or imported data is accurate.

  1. Give every column a clear heading and select the data region.
  2. Apply Filter to inspect a subset, or Sort to order the records.
  3. Use Text to Columns or Remove Duplicates only after checking the intended range.
  4. Add Data Validation where future entries need consistent values.
