Open, save and organise workbooks
Start a spreadsheet and keep an editable copy of your work.
Applies to Grid 0.7.0 on doc.et.
What you can do#
File opens supported spreadsheets from your device, and a new workbook gives you a grid for entering data. Use sheet tabs to separate related tables, calculations and reports. Rename sheets so formulas and exported files remain understandable to someone who did not build the workbook.
The browser Save As flow downloads an XLSX workbook. PDF export is a separate way to share pages for reading or printing. Imported formats do not all preserve the same information: ODS and XLSB imports are chiefly values and cached results, while older XLS files support only part of the workbook structure.
Try it#
Save separate copies at useful milestones. A browser tab is not a cloud drive or a shared team workbook. For complex imported files, retain the original and verify important formulas, charts and formatting in the downloaded copy before replacing an existing file.
- Create a workbook or choose File → Open.
- Rename the sheets to describe their purpose.
- Enter data and formulas, then use File → Save As.
- Check the downloaded XLSX file before closing the tab.
