Formulas, functions and calculation

Calculate results and understand how cells depend on one another.

Applies to Grid 0.7.0 on doc.et.

What you can do#

Start a formula with an equals sign and refer to cells or ranges. For example, =SUM(B2:B10) adds a range. Use the formula bar, autocomplete and Insert Function help when building an expression. Named ranges and table references can make repeated calculations easier to understand.

The calculation engine supports many formula families, including numeric, logical, text, date, lookup and dynamic-array operations. Support is not complete for every spreadsheet function. Inspect errors and check representative results when importing a formula-heavy workbook, especially where it depends on external workbooks or specialised functions.

Try it#

In Spanish formula entry, supported aliases use local separators, but advanced dialogs and clipboard exchange retain English syntax. Do not assume every interface language translates function names. External workbook links may be preserved in XLSX without being followed or refreshed, so they are not a live data connection.

  1. Enter a few numbers in a column.
  2. Enter =SUM(B2:B10) in another cell, adjusting the range to your data.
  3. Inspect the referenced range and compare the result with a small manual example.
  4. Use formula tools and calculation settings when diagnosing a larger model.
